Member of Americas Second Harvest
Organized in 1989, the South Texas Food Bank is a member of Americas Second Harvest, the nation largest hunger fighting charity. As a subsidiary distribution organization of the food banks association with Second Harvest, it is able to network with the major manufactures and distributors in the country.
The South Texas Food Bank is the only USDA commodities distributor in the six counties of Webb, Zapata, Dimmit, Maverick, Val Verde and Kinney, through a contract with the Texas Department of Agriculture. This 11,500 square mile area has a population of 312,320 of which over 104,000 live below poverty level.
